The Board of Trustees of the Adventist University of West Africa (AUWA) seeks a qualified, experienced, visionary and mission driven leader in higher education with professional standards and integrity, who demonstrates commitment to cooperate with the faculty, staff, students, and the Board of Trustees to promote the growth and development of the University, to serve in the capacity of President.

AUWA is a vibrant Institution of higher learning owned and operated by the West Africa Union Mission of Seventh-day Adventists with headquarters in Liberia. It was established in 2011 by an act of the National legislature of Liberia. It is situated at the Advent Hill of Margibi County, Liberia. AUWA is nationally recognized as possessing distinctive characteristics of Adventist education that prepares people for useful and joy-filled lives, whole-person development, and Bible–based values and selfless service in accordance with the Seventh-day Adventist mission to the world. It delivers high-quality undergraduate instructions to an enrollment of nearly 1,500 students.

Responsibilities

  • The President shall exercise general supervision over the University and shall have a general responsibility to the Board of Trustees for maintaining and promoting the efficiency and good order of the University. It shall be the duty of the President to see that the provisions of the Orders and Regulations are observed and, when necessary, exercise such powers as may be necessary or expedient for that purpose.

     The President shall by virtue of the office, be a member of the University Board, and Executive Secretary to the Board of Trustees and serve as member and Chairman of Academic Council and any other authority of the University set up by the Senate and any board or committee appointed by any of those bodies.

    To serve as secretary of the Board of Governors and of the Executive Board, and administer their policies and regulations, ensuring the implementation of the same

    To promote amity and unity of purpose among all members of the teaching and administrative staff, the Board of Governors, the constituency, the alumni, and the student body.

    To facilitate the appointment, compensation, assignment of ranks, continuous appointments, promotions, leaves of absence, and severance of faculty members.

    To estimate the budget needs in collaboration with the administrative officers and present the College/University budget to the Board.

    To promote the religious life of students, faculty, and staff

    To represent the College/University in the churches and secondary schools of the constituency and at meetings of educational accrediting organizations.

    To be the legal and institutional representative of the College/University and to delegate such representation when necessary.

    To assume other additional responsibilities appropriate to the office as the board may authorize.

Qualifications

    1. Shall be an academic with a minimum of four years at the rank of a professor,
    2. Knowledgeable and experienced in the philosophy and practice of the Adventist education.
    3. A strong commitment to academic quality and excellence in teaching.
    4. Knowledge of and sensitivity to the unique needs of Adventist higher education
    5. High ethical standards and professional integrity
    6. A demonstrated ability to communicate the vision, mission, philosophy, and needs of the university to the various constituencies of the university, including the students, faculty, staff, alumni, and collaborating partners.
    7. An enduring ability of good listening and being at ease in dealing with students, faculty, and administrative staff and to creating an inclusive environment characterized by collegiality, shared responsibility, and collective responsibility
    8. High commitment to fundraising and advocating for increasing support from a variety of sources; including investments and other fund-raising activities.
    9. Building and maintaining production linkages with Adventist institutions of higher learning within the West-Central Africa Division (WAD) field area and abroad
    10. Be a baptized member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in good standing
    11. Must be willing to live within close vicinity of the University throughout the period of his or her service at AUWA
